TEXTtrac - UK Pet MicroChip Reunification Service via SMS
Reuniting MicroChipped pets via SMS since 2003
TEXTtrac
TEXTtrac was the first SMS pet MicroChip Reunification service (introduced in 2003) that allowed authorised animal welfare agencies and vets to obtain owner information quickly and direct to their mobile phone for lost and found MicroChipped pets.TEXTtrac sends the information back via SMS directly to the mobile phone and removes the need for it to be written down. Another example of how AVID has used the latest technology to help customers.
Who can use TEXTtrac?
TEXTtrac is primarily used by dog wardens and rescue centres when it is not always easy to have a telephone conversation to retrieve MicroChip details. For example, whilst struggling to restrain a dog (or perhaps in an area without good mobile phone signal. In most cases you are able to send and receive an SMS even when the signal is too weak to make calls). How does TEXTtrac work?
It is a simple concept, but highly effective. The pet MicroChip is implanted as usual, and the form sent off to the UK PETtrac Database. Once an entire batch of MicroChips has been implanted the veterinary practice or rescue centre sends off a card with the MicroChips which they have implanted.Retrieving pet and owner details using SMS, via the TEXTtrac service, is very straight forward. Once you have registered for the service with the PETtrac Database, simply create a new message and enter the MicroChip number. This message is then sent to the automated server which checks the MicroChip and mobile phone details. When TEXTtrac successfully authenticates your request for information, via your mobile phone number, a message is returned with the pet and owner details.
What if it's not registered on the UK PETtrac Database?
If the MicroChip is not registered on the UK PETtrac Database, you will be sent a message with further information on how to contact the appropriate MicroChip database.Simple as that!
