One of the greatest problems faced by all microchippers is when a stray animal is brought to them and found to have a MicroChip with out of date owner details registered. Sometimes, those with time and well honed detective skills, may be able to find out some information regarding the current owner, however all too often the pet is placed in the local council kennels where it waits 7 days to be claimed, after which time it may be rehomed.
AVID launched the Pet Chip Update Campaign in 2009 in a bid to remind pet owners the importance of keeping their pet's registration information current. Posters, leaflets, stickers and a brand new website www.petchipupdate.com have all been extremely well received by those who come into contact with stray pets on a regular basis. Undoubtedly this campaign has prompted many pet owners to call and update their pet's MicroChip registration.
To coincide with National Microchipping Month in June this year, AVID will be taking the Pet Chip Update Campaign to a new level. AVID is now a member of the Vet-XML Consortium, and is helping to define the schema which will be used for electronic MicroChip registrations in an xml data format.
AVID already offers direct electronic registration in to the PETtrac MicroChip Database via the website, www.avidplc.com, and through some software packages.
